Pierre-Luc Poujol explores memory and imprint through materials derived from living things (ashes, charcoal, grasses, etc.).
Shaped by a life marked by forced relocations, a childhood without a fixed home, and successive moves, his work examines the connections between uprooting and rootedness.
Inheriting his grandfather’s rural roots and nurtured by the spiritual world of his father, a pastor, Pierre-Luc Poujol developed an attentive gaze toward nature and the bonds that unite living things from a very early age.
The tree is a central motif in his work. For the artist, it represents a form of resilience: the ability to take root, to endure wounds, and to continue growing.
By using charcoal, ash, and branches—materials that have already been shaped by fire, time, and transience—the artist engages in a process of re-materializing memory.
It is not a matter of depicting the past, but of opening a space where memory can emerge: through gesture, trace, and the tension between what remains and what fades away.
Biography
Pierre-Luc Poujol began a distinguished academic career in the applied arts, graduating at the top of his class.
After dividing his time between France and the United States for several years, he established his studio in the south of France, near Montpellier, in 2018.
Recognized for his work and artistic commitment, he has won prestigious awards. He was the recipient of the international prize awarded by UNESCO for the 2,000th anniversary of the Nativity.
Pierre-Luc Poujol has also developed a close relationship with museums. Notably, he presented two major exhibitions at the Paul Valéry Museum: *Voyage à Giverny* (2020) and *Arborescences* (2024). The latter was also presented at the Musée de Ferrières in 2025. He is currently preparing a new museum exhibition scheduled for 2027.
As a socially engaged artist, in the spring of 2022 he became the first ambassador for the French NGO Coeur de Forêt, lending his voice and his artistic tools to the cause of preserving our biodiversity.

Ambassador of the NGO “Coeur de forêt”
Pierre-Luc Poujol, ambassador of Coeur de Forêt
In the spring of 2022, Pierre-Luc Poujol decided to commit himself to Coeur de Forêt by becoming the first ambassador of this French NGO dedicated to preserving forests and fighting deforestation.
This French association for the preservation of forests and the fight against deforestation has worked in France and internationally to protect and preserve woodland since 2005. It works through international programmes to restore degraded forest ecosystems, to support small-scale producers towards sustainable agriculture and forestry, to develop fair trade channels and to raise awareness among local populations.
