Biography
Pierre-Luc Poujol was born in 1963 in Alès (Cévennes, FRANCE).
In 1984, he began brilliant studies in applied arts, from which he graduated top of his class (first prize in drawing, first prize in perspective, first prize in sketching).
After spending his time between France and the United States for several years, in 2018 he finally set up his workshop in the South of France, near Montpellier.
Influenced by the rural roots of his farming grandfather and lulled by the spiritual environment of his pastor father, Pierre-Luc Poujol develops an early sensitivity to the world and nature around him.
Acclaimed for his work and artistic commitment, he has won numerous prestigious awards. In particular, he was the winner of the international prize awarded by UNESCO for two-thousandth anniversary of the Nativity.
Pierre-Luc Poujol is also keen to forge links with museum institutions. From March 23 to May 26, 2024, he presented “Arborescences”, his new solo exhibition at the Musée Paul Valéry, featuring over 70 paintings and wood sculptures on the theme of trees and forests.
A committed artist, in spring 2022 he will become the first ambassador of the French NGO Coeur de Forêt, for which he will lend his voice and his tools in favor of preserving our biodiversity.
Artistic approach
One only has to enter Pierre-Luc Poujol‘s studio, nestled in the heart of a dense forest, to immediately understand his intimate fascination for the plant world.
This is a source of inspiration for the artist, which he translates into both painting and sculpture.
Each of Pierre-Luc Poujol’s works is the concrete form of a boundless quest, where the boundaries between traditional techniques and avant-garde approaches become blurred. For him, creation becomes a constantly evolving field of exploration.
In addition to the projection and dripping that give his painting its uniqueness, Pierre-Luc Poujol also uses his own organic and unconventional tools in his creations: tree branches, plant ashes, charcoal, allowing him a more intimate connection with his subject.
Pierre-Luc Poujol translates into his painting a real desire to be at one with his work.
“To paint is to accept to lose” is how the artist defines his artistic commitment. Indeed, painting represents for him a risk, a path, an adventure and translates the concrete form of a free and intuitive expression without trying to reach a specific goal but instead to constantly explore new territories.

Ambassador of the NGO “Coeur de forêt”
Pierre-Luc Poujol, ambassador of Coeur de Forêt
In the spring of 2022, Pierre-Luc Poujol decided to commit himself to Coeur de Forêt by becoming the first ambassador of this French NGO dedicated to preserving forests and fighting deforestation.
This French association for the preservation of forests and the fight against deforestation has worked in France and internationally to protect and preserve woodland since 2005. It works through international programmes to restore degraded forest ecosystems, to support small-scale producers towards sustainable agriculture and forestry, to develop fair trade channels and to raise awareness among local populations.

“In view of my life’s journey and my artistic work, this is first and foremost the reason that led me to collaborate with the Coeur de Forêt association.
Indeed, the forests in which I regenerate on a daily basis are for me an inexhaustible source of emotions that I try to present in my paintings and sculptures.
So it was only natural for me to give my work a little extra soul, and to translate this osmosis into a concrete commitment to a French NGO that puts Man and Biodiversity back at the heart of its exchanges and concerns.
But it was also, and above all, a commitment of the heart that guided me and pushed me to become an ambassador for Coeur de Forêt, a desire to make a modest contribution to growing and offering a better world for generations to come.”
