Biography

Influenced by the rural roots of his farming grandfather and lulled by the spiritual environment of his pastor father, Pierre-Luc Poujol cultivates his artistic field with his feet on the ground and stars in his eyes.
After his further education at the agricultural college in Montpellier, he began further studies in applied arts, from which he graduated top of his class (first prize in drawing, first prize in perspective, first prize in sketching).
As a painter-sculptor, he spends his time between his workshops in Montpellier (France) and Miami.
Pierre-Luc Poujol is a leading figure on the contemporary art scene thanks to his unique artistic universe. He his proud to be a part of abstract expressionism and American lyrical abstraction movements.
His striking techniques of projection and dripping have earned him exhibitions in many countries, galleries and renowned museums.
Acclaimed for his work and artistic commitment, he has won numerous prestigious awards. In particular, he was the winner of the international prize awarded by UNESCO for two-thousandth anniversary of the Nativity.
Pierre-Luc Poujol strives to forge special links with museums. His last exhibition « Voyage à Giverny », at the Paul Valéry Museum (France), was a great opportunity to become part of the permanent collection.
Artistic approach

Sensitive to the environment and nature that surrounds and has influenced him since he was very young, Pierre-Luc Poujol puts the mutual relationship between Man and Nature at the centre of his artistic concerns. This is the starting point of his approach, which adds to the many subjects he tackles in both his painting and sculpture.
This attraction for the flora, the environment, movement and light is found at the very heart of his creations. Produced with his projection and drip technique, they are part of the contemporary artistic trend of abstract expressionism and more particularly of American lyrical abstraction.
Influenced by the great masters of action painting, Pierre-Luc Poujol translates into his painting a real desire to be at one with his work. Without ever touching them, he has the tenacious will to bring order and meaning to them and to offer them universal questioning.
From this singular relationship with his canvases, Pierre-Luc Poujol also seeks, through the monumentality of his works, to re-establish the primacy of colour and light and to bring more lyricism and romanticism to abstraction.
His creations invite a sensory and emotional experience, offering each of us a palette of personal interpretations, giving us the freedom to appropriate his works, to be moved, to question ourselves and to find ourselves.
“To paint is to accept to lose” is how the artist defines his artistic commitment. Indeed, painting represents for him a risk, a path, an adventure and translates the concrete form of a free and intuitive expression without trying to reach a specific goal but instead to constantly explore new territories.

Ambassador of the NGO “Coeur de forêt”

Pierre-Luc Poujol becomes the ambassador of Coeur de Forêt
One only has to enter Pierre-Luc Poujol‘s studio, nestled in the heart of a dense forest, to immediately understand his intimate fascination for the plant world.
A farmer‘s grandson, attached to his farming roots, he fathoms the souls of trees, revealing their vitality, but also getting far enough away from them to portray their sensuality and poetry. These trees, and his relationship to them which can be seen from his works on bark, have fascinated him since childhood and occupy a very important place in his everyday life; they are both his roots and equally his inspiration.
It is therefore natural that in the spring of 2022, Pierre-Luc Poujol decided to commit himself to the Coeur de Forêt by becoming its ambassador.
This French association for the preservation of forests and the fight against deforestation has worked in France and internationally to protect and preserve woodland since 2005.
It works through international programmes to restore degraded forest ecosystems, to support small-scale producers towards sustainable agriculture and forestry, to develop fair trade channels and to raise awareness among local populations.
In France, it has been active since 2017 in proposing alternatives to forest degradation and to involve citizens and small woodland owners in forest preservation.
